#1386 closed task (wontfix)

use python3 for the sound subprocess

Reported by: Antoine Martin Owned by: Antoine Martin
Priority: major Milestone: 3.0
Component: packaging Version: trunk
Keywords: Cc:

That's already the case on win32.
We should do the same for Linux and OSX.
Somewhat related to #1253.

Status: newassigned

Done for Fedora and RHEL in r14579.

Still TODO:

  • OSX: hard, would need to duplicate most of the app bundling code for the python3 subapp
  • debian / ubuntu: packaging required

comment:2 Changed 5 years ago by Antoine Martin

Milestone: 2.03.0
  • win32 is back to using python2 because the cx_freeze based packaging for the new build system does not support packaging python3 properly (#678)
  • rpm distros have switched to python3: r14579

Note: since we now use split packages (#1253), we cannot assume that python3 is available... so rpm distros no longer use python3 by default.

The python3 port is making enough progress (#1568) that we will be able to move everything rather than piecemeal.
