Does this require a multi-monitor setup? In what way is the geometry weird? I've just tried it here and couldn't trigger any problems. I even booted up an Ubuntu 16.04 server to try to reproduce, no luck so far.

In what way is the geometry weird?
The window is maximized way off the screen monitor. "I would assume" that it is trying to be full screen in the server's viewport, and then moved to the right-most monitor only
